Atelier
Firenze, DALLA TERRA.
A fine footwear project devoted to the sandal.
The place of the project
Material, construction, proportion.
Research into material and handwork meet in the atelier. Here the spatula-worked sole enters into relation with the upper, the insole and the finishing details.
Firenze is the place from which we look at the sandal. At its shape, its contact with the foot, and every detail that makes it whole.
Our process
02 — The origin
The name begins with the material.
The Crete Senesi, the tones of burned earth, the ceramic culture of Montelupo. Tuscan terracotta inspires the colour, the surface and the gesture.
DALLA TERRA grows from this vocabulary: surfaces to look at up close, variations in colour, a mark left in the material. Ceramic is the reference; the sandal is the project.
Montelupo, colour takes shape.
03 — Our process
The spatula-worked sole.
Prepared separately. Worked by hand. Then joined to the sandal.
The colour of the Sienese earth, the surface of terracotta, the gesture of ceramics: these references enter into the construction of the sole.
- 01
Every sole begins separately.
The compound is prepared for the individual piece of work. Earth tones are placed alongside one another without making them completely uniform: differences in pigment will create the clouding.
- 02
The hand draws the surface.
The material is spread with a spatula. The application carries the pigments with it, leaving passages of colour that follow the movement of the hand. Guides regulate the thickness.
- 03
The mark enters the material.
While the compound is still workable, the stamps are applied. The tread grooves are pressed into the fresh surface: the design comes from contact, from pressure.
- 04
A mark of its own.
The mark and the number are impressed by hand. The variations in the spatula work and the mark belong to that particular piece, as part of its construction.
- 05
The material takes its time.
The sole remains separate from the upper while the compound completes its polymerisation. Removed from the mould, it is checked before assembly.
- 06
Two processes meet.
The finished sole is joined to the sandal. The upper, insole and binding each have their own path. Assembly brings them together; the edge is finished while preserving the character of the spatula-worked surface.
DALLA TERRA · FIRENZE
From the project to the collection.
The story takes shape in the relationship between sole, upper and foot. Essential lines, soft volumes, details to be observed.
